Dare to do Right
2 Kings 18:1-8

Intro: Here we have a story of a king who did the right things. No matter
what had happened before, or how people where before him, he dared to do the
right things. You have to work at doing right, because it may go against
others and what they think might be the way it should be. Some times it’s
not popular to do the right thing. Let us look to see how this King dared to
do right.

1. Choose the Right Motive; vs. 3

A. our motive for doing right “in the sight of the Lord”
B. Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

2. Put things in the Right Place; vs. 4

A. they were worshipping the brazen serpent instead of God (programs, buildings, material things)
B. Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his
righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

3. Called things by their Right Name; vs. 4b

A. he broke the brazen serpent into pieces
B. he called it Nehushtan which means piece of brass
C. they had turned the brazen serpent into an idol

4. Put his confidence in the Right Person; vs. 5

A. he trusted in the Lord God of Israel
B. Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not
unto thine own understanding.

5. Walked in the Right Path; vs. 6

A. he cleave unto the Lord and departed not from following him
B. cleave= walk closely, cling
C. Mathew 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will
come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow
me.

6. Enjoyed the Right kind of Success; vs. 7

A. the Lord was with him and he prospered
B. Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

7. Showed the Right kind of Independence; vs. 7b

A. rebelled against and served not the king of Assyria
B. Mathew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon

Conclusion: We may dare to do a lot of things in our life, but do we dare to
do the RIGHT THINGS for God?
