What does Baptism Mean?
Galatians 3:27
* The water baptism is an earthly witness of salvation. It does not have any
thing to do with going to heaven or hell. However it is a testimony of a
believer. We should follow the Lord in believers baptism. It is to let the
world know of our profession of faith in Jesus. It is a precious time for
the believer, for it shows the obedience to the Lord. Let us look to the
scriptures to see the meaning of baptism.
1. Death; Romans 6:3
Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: neverthless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.We have died with Christ
2. Burial; Romans 6:4
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. The old man is dead
3. Resurrection; Colossians 2:12
Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. Our life has been changed
4. Likeness; Galatians 3:27
For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. How much we let the new man live is equal to how much we let the old man die
5. Unity; 1 Corinthians 12:13
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. Are we united in Christ?
Conclusion: Have you followed the Lord in believers' baptism?
