What we are not to do or be with the
World!
1 John 2:15-17
This word world here in the Greek means Kosmos which means world system, orderly arrangement, in other word how the world is. This word is in 1 John 22 times. As a Christian, God doesn’t want us to be worldly. Let us look to the scriptures to see what we are not to do or be with the world.
1. Love not the World:
A. 1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
B. 2 Timothy 4:10 For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica: Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.
2. Friendship with the World:
A. James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
B. Judas was a friend to this world Luke 22:6 And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.
3. Spotted by the World:
A. James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
B. Lot was spotted by the world Genesis 19
4. Conformed to this World:
A. Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
B. Samson was conformed to the Philistines Judges 16:1 Then went Samson to Gaza, and saw there an harlot, and went in unto her.( Gaza was a city of the Philistines)
5. Condemned with the World:
A. 1 Corinthians 11:32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.
B. Religiously lost John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
Conclusion: This World is not my home. As a Christian you shouldn’t act, look, think or be like the world. God could get the children of Israel out of Egypt, but it was a job getting Egypt out of Israel.
